Greetings again fellow members and readers. They say that a little bit of summer is what the whole year is about. And summer is finally here!
As my term ends, I am grateful for the opportunity to have served as President of the New York State Land Title Association. It was truly an honor and a privilege. I enjoyed navigating current events and hot topics with our officers, committees and members.
Although a relatively quiet year, let’s face it, there’s always something to talk about. And that will continue in the coming year with our new President Eric Swarthout. It’s comforting to know that the Association is in excellent hands.
There are many good works in process, including the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Committee; the Deed Fraud Working Group under the Government Regulations Committee; efforts to successfully establish a functional relationship with our regulator; our continuing CE/CLE and mentorship programs; and an Honor Roll to recognize those who contributed to our industry and/or Association. And of course, title tidbits and perhaps some DEI tidbits as well.
There are also many things in progress to look out for, including proposed legislation aimed at deed fraud and notaries; the New York Privacy Act; the disclosure of beneficial owners of LLCs; the end of New York City tax lien sales and what will replace them; and how RIN/RON will look in practice.
Looking forward to seeing many of you at our August convention in Rhode Island where we can smell the sea, feel the sky, and let our souls and spirits fly. As Hellen Keller once said, “Keep your face to the sunshine and you cannot see the shadows. It’s what the sunflowers do.”
Thank you all for your support and a wonderful term!
